Deep Tissue vs Full Body Massage: Which Is Right for You?

Deep tissue and full body massage are two of the most popular treatments at Harmony Spa. They can look similar on a menu, but they feel quite different on the table.

What a full body massage does

A full body massage covers you from head to toe with smooth, flowing strokes and medium pressure. Its main purpose is relaxation: calming the nervous system, easing everyday tension and leaving you feeling rested.

What a deep tissue massage does

A deep tissue massage uses slower, firmer pressure to reach deeper layers of muscle. It focuses on specific problem areas such as tight shoulders, a stiff neck or sore legs after training.

Key differences at a glance

  • Pressure: medium for full body; firm and sustained for deep tissue.
  • Pace: flowing versus slow and deliberate.
  • Coverage: even across the body versus concentrated on problem zones.
  • Afterwards: relaxed and sleepy versus possibly a little tender for a day or two.

How to decide

If you are stressed and want to switch off, choose full body. If one area keeps bothering you and you enjoy firm pressure, choose deep tissue. If you are somewhere in between, ask your therapist to blend the two: a relaxing full body massage with extra focus on your shoulders, for example.

Aftercare for both

Drink water, move gently and give yourself a calm evening. After deep tissue work, light stretching and a warm shower can ease any tenderness.
